Position: Accountant
Location: Abuja, FCT.
Employment Type: Full-time.
Job Purpose:
To maintain accurate financial records, ensure regulatory compliance, support management decision-making, and contribute to the financial health of the organization throughout the complete financial cycle using the REAN structure.
Key Responsibilities (REAN Structure)
Capture & Record Financial Activity
· Collect, verify, and record all incoming financial transactions (invoices, receipts, bank statements, expense reports)
· Process accounts payable: match purchase orders, verify invoices, obtain approvals, and enter the system
· Process accounts receivable: issue invoices, follow up on outstanding payments, record customer receipts
· Maintain fixed asset register, record acquisitions, disposals, and calculate depreciation
· Gather and classify supporting documentation for all financial events
Analyze, Reconcile & Interact
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies in accounts and transactions.
· Prepare and analyze monthly management accounts, variance reports, and key performance indicators.
· Respond to internal queries from department heads, program officer, and other employees regarding budgets, expenses, and payments.
· Liaise with external parties (suppliers, customers, banks, tax authorities) on finance-related matters
Close, Report & Comply
· Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow)
· Support statutory audits: prepare working papers, schedules, and respond to auditor queries.
· Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax laws, and internal policies.
· Submit statutory filings, tax returns, and other regulatory reports on time
Forecast, Improve & Advise
· Prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash flow projections
· Monitor financial performance against budget, highlight risks/opportunities, and propose corrective actions
· Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls
· Support cost analysis, profitability studies, pricing decisions, and investment appraisals
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in accounting standards, tax legislation, and best practices
· Contribute to finance team development through knowledge sharing and training of junior staff
Qualifications & Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
· Professional qualification (ICAN preferably)
· 3–4 years of progressive accounting experience (depending on seniority level)
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax basics.
· Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel
· High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and strong numerical accuracy.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
