Call for Expressions of Interest: Article Writers Renewable Energy Local Content Development in Nigeria
Context
Domestic participation across Nigeria’s renewable energy value chain remains constrained by limited local manufacturing and assembly capacity, technical skills gaps, weak financing access, and low awareness of participation opportunities among industry stakeholders and policymakers. The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) is commissioning a series of articles that document the current state of local content development, identify the barriers limiting it, and recommend concrete steps for expanding domestic participation, giving industry, government, and development partners a clear, evidence-based basis for action.
Objective
These articles aim to inform stakeholder and policy discourse on local content development by presenting the current state of domestic participation, the structural barriers limiting it, and the policy and market interventions needed to address them. They will also encourage government and all key stakeholders to take concrete steps toward strengthening domestic participation across the value chain.
Scope
Each article (1,000–1,500 words) will assess the current level of domestic participation across the value chain; manufacturing, assembly, engineering, installation, operations and maintenance, and technical services, identify the principal barriers to local content development (finance, technology, skills, regulatory constraints), examine the relevant policy and regulatory landscape, and set out evidence-based recommendations for strengthening domestic participation. The article should be data-driven and supported by local and international case studies where relevant. The full scope of work is detailed in the Terms of Reference.
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate a track record in policy writing, journalism, or research within energy, renewable energy, or industrial development, with the ability to translate complex policy and economic issues into accessible content for a mixed technical and non-technical audience. Experience in local content or industrial policy, and experience incorporating gender and inclusion considerations into related content, are both considered an advantage.
