Call for Expressions of Interest: Article Writers Renewable Energy Standards & Compliance Awareness Campaign in Nigeria
Context
The continued expansion of Nigeria’s renewable energy market has been accompanied by
inconsistent product quality, variable installation standards, and limited consumer awareness of
applicable certification and compliance requirements. The Renewable Energy Association of
Nigeria (REAN) is commissioning a series of articles that document the current gaps in standards
and compliance, explain how consumers and industry stakeholders can identify and adopt quality
practices, and set out clear recommendations for strengthening market oversight, giving
consumers, installers, and regulators a clear, evidence-based basis for action.
Objective
These articles are intended to inform consumer and industry understanding of renewable energy
standards, quality assurance, and compliance obligations by presenting the current gaps in
market oversight, the risks associated with substandard products and practices, and the measures
required to address them. They also aim to call on consumers, installers, and industry
stakeholders to adopt safer, higher-quality practices across the value chain.
Scope
The article (1,000–1,500 words) should explain the current landscape of standards and
compliance in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, address how consumers can identify quality,
certified products and services, outline the risks associated with substandard products and
installation practices, and examine the relevant regulatory and institutional landscape, setting out
well-supported, actionable recommendations for strengthening standards and compliance. The
article should be data-driven and supported by local and international case studies where
relevant. The full scope of work is detailed in the Terms of Reference.
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate a track record in policy writing, journalism, or research within
the energy, standards, or compliance sector, with the ability to translate complex regulatory and
technical concepts into content that is clear and accessible to a broad audience. Experience in
gender-inclusive energy access or development policy is considered an advantage.
