REAN Visits REA-NEP to Explore the Nigeria Electrification Program
On August 3, 2023, the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) paid an advocacy visit to the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria’s Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) office in Abuja.
Driven by its objectives, REAN remained committed to maintaining quality relationships with stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to strengthen the renewable energy industry in Nigeria. On August 3, REAN’s President, Mr. Ayo Ademilua (MBA), led a team of the association for an advocacy visit to the REA’s Nigeria Electrification Project office. The team was received by Mr. Abba Aliyu, Head of the Project Management Unit at NEP, and the management team, including the World Bank and AfDB.
The Nigeria Electrification Project is a Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) initiative that is private sector driven and seeks to bridge the energy access deficit by providing electricity to households, MSMEs, educational, and healthcare facilities in unserved and underserved rural communities through the deployment of mini-grids, Solar Home Systems (SHS), captive power plants, and productive use appliances to ensure the sustainability of these off-grid solutions.
Highlights of the advocacy visit by REAN include insightful discussions on the Nigeria electrification projects, possible areas of collaboration to foster the acceleration of off-grid development, and exploring opportunities that would benefit members of the association. Mr. Ayo also commended the NEP team for their work in the sector.
REAN will continue to promote more collaborative efforts with REA-NEP in the electrification of unserved and underserved communities in Nigeria through renewable energy. Committed to acting as a link between the industry, the government, consumer groups, international organizations, and other renewable energy associations.
